Welcome
You are about to walk inside the geometry of music. Take your time. The museum is yours for as long as you want.
The Golden Rule
If you are lost or need help, press F1. The menu will appear.
To reset or exit a scene, press the Escape key. You will return to the Museum Hall.
Two keys. That is all you need to know to never be stuck.
Starting the Museum
1. Launch MmvM on your computer. 2. The museum will start in the Museum Hall, the central space.
Moving in the Museum
- Walk forward, back, left, right — arrow keys
- Fly up — Page Up
- Fly down — Page Down
- Look around — move the mouse
Some scenes let you fly. Others keep you on the ground. The scene will tell you when.
When You See a Door, a Button, or a Symbol
- Move your mouse cursor over it
- Left-click to activate
- Walk through doors to enter a scene
Hearing the Museum
Music will follow you everywhere. Approach a colored sphere to hear its note. Walk away and it fades. Some rooms let you adjust your hearing radius — a bubble of sound around you — if too many notes play at once.
The Three Voice Guides
Every scene has three pictogram buttons:
- Child — a short, poetic introduction
- Musician — a guided explanation
- Researcher — the mathematics behind the room
Click one and a voice reads the scene aloud at that level. Switch any time.
About the 360-Degree Films
In the Geode (the cinema room), some films are flat — they play on a screen in front of you. Some are 360-degree films. On a PC, drag the mouse to look around inside a 360-degree film, like YouTube VR. The experience is much more immersive in a VR headset, but it works on PC too.
Where to Start
If this is your first time, start with Newton's Circle — the simplest and most welcoming room. From there try the Tonnetz, then the Torus of Thirds, then Planet 4D.
If you are a musician or researcher, go directly to what interests you. The most mathematically rich rooms are Planet 4D, Fourier Phases 4D, the Octatonic Tesseract, and the Orbifolds.
If you want something playful, try the Möbius Strip, the CubeHarmonic, or John's Pi World.
If you need to rest, visit the Geode — the cinema room — and watch a film.
